UCI Biophysicist Thorsten Ritz Named a Fellow in Britain's Royal Institute of Navigation

UCI biophysicist Thorsten Ritz has been named a fellow in Britain's Royal Institute of Navigation for his work on animals' "magnetic compass."

An Associate Professor of Physics & Astronomy, Ritz studies migratory birds, magnetic sensing and quantum physics.

The award was presented by the Duke of Edinburgh (on right in photo) in July, 2012.

The institute, a charitable society based in London, aims to promote the art and science of navigation by uniting researchers and increasing public awareness of the field.
