Scientists in the Department of Physics and Astronomy are working to expand our knowledge of the Universe, the laws of physics, and the behavior of matter and energy by examining everything from the smallest particles to the vast expanses of the cosmos. Physicists at UCI play integral roles in the world's leading particle physics experiments, to understand the fundamental forces of nature and the ultimate nature of matter. We are developing techniques to understand the physical properties of proteins and membranes to better understand the inner workings of living cells. We are creating new techniques and equipment to manipulate single atoms to understand their quantum behavior and build new materials and circuits. We work with the world's most powerful telescopes to study the evolution of galaxies and the structure of our Universe. Education and hands-on training of undergraduate and graduate students is at the core of our mission.
In order to realize our vision it takes the creative and financial commitment of alumni, community friends and industry. Gifts of all sizes allow our programs to grow and thrive. It is only through your support that we can continue to explore, invent and shape tomorrow’s world.
You can support our mission with a donation to the following departmental priorities:
Physics and Astronomy General Fund: Provides support for a variety of departmental activities including public outreach events, new research initiatives, educational programs, and seminars by visiting scientists.
Physics and Astronomy Fellowship Fund: Provides support for graduate student education and training.
UCI Center for Cosmology: Provides support for research activities of the Center for Cosmology.
Gary McCue Chair and Fellowship in Cosmology: Provides support for postdoctoral research fellowships and other research activities in cosmology.
To donate by credit card, click one of the above links to go to the UCI Giving web site. To make a donation by check, make your check payable to the UCI Foundation, and specify one of the above programs (Physics and Astronomy General Fund, Physics and Astronomy Fellowship, UCI Center for Cosmology, or Gary McCue Chair) on the Memo line of the check or in an accompanying letter to indicate the program you'd like to support. Mail your check to:
