Abstract: Atmospheric neutrinos are produced when cosmic rays crash into the atmosphere. They have played a key role in the discovery of neutrino oscillation and continue to serve as an important natural neutrino source, covering a wide range of energy and oscillation baseline. In this colloquium, I’ll briefly introduce the production mechanism and the detection, then discuss the oscillation study with atmospheric neutrinos in liquid argon time projection chamber, highlighting opportunities at DUNE, and challenges in neutrino detection in argon.
