As said in the video, gravity and electricity are similar. When talking about gravity, we have the HEAVY BALL and the GROUND (earth).
Gravitational force causes the BALL to want to be close to the GROUND. When talking about electricity, we have the
PLUS CHARGE and the
MINUS CHARGE.
Electrical force causes the CHARGES to want to be close to each other.
When we lift the ball off the ground, we are giving it what we call
GRAVITATIONAL POTENTIAL ENERGY. In much the same way, when we pull the plus charge away from the minus charge, we are giving it
ELECTRICAL POTENTIAL ENERGY. The amount of energy increases the higher we lift the ball up or the farther away we pull the plus charge. When released, the ball will rush back to the ground and the plus charge will rush back to the minus charge.
Lifting the ball off the ground gives it some
HEIGHT. Pulling the plus charge away from the minus charge gives it some
DISTANCE.
This distance measures VOLTAGE.
		The
farther away we pull the plus charge from the minus charge, the
greater the voltage is.
